1,317 days. Or 3 years, 7 months, 1 week and 1 day (interesting number repetition there) since we found out the result of the Brexit referendum. After voting to Leave the EU on 23rd June 2016 we are now finally - 'sort of' - out; as Kathy Gyngell writes at The Conservative Woman "We are however under no illusions. This is just the end of the beginning."
And from Raedwald, copied here (he says it so well)...
"Dear Ursula
Many thanks for the kind words from the floor of your assembly. The United Kingdom will also always love the nations of Europe - and those nations will remain our favourite holiday and retirement destinations. Many of them even use the same notes and coins, which makes it easier!
However, I should point out that we're not actually leaving Europe. Of which we're of course an integral part. And we'll be marketing our many fine comestibles products across the world as 'Food from Europe' as well as 'Made in the UK'. And we remain proud of our continent of 730m people, of whom some 460m are also 'citizens' of your Federation thing.
We'll have a year more to enjoy the madcap, mouth-frothing, carpet-chewing antics of your rantiest stars - Hof's histrionics, petulant posturing and insane rhetoric keep us all in good spirits and we enjoy immensely his little You Tube clips. After that, I'm not sure who we will have to laugh at - unless Labour have elected a new Leader by then, of course.
Anyhow, must close. Good luck with those criminal investigations against you - after all, anyone can accidentally wipe two mobile phones containing incriminating criminal evidence on the same day. If you're not in jail, we'll correspond again in eleven months.
Best -
Britain."

Overtly open operators...
Are you listening Mrs May? Away with you; Huawei with you. Don't take your treason over Brexit to even higher levels by selling our security down the river: I can't believe you (and the Coalition and Cameron before you) and your dumb-arse advisors knew nothing of this. "Vodafone Found Hidden Backdoors in Huawei Equipment". "Europe’s biggest phone company identified hidden backdoors in the software that could have given Huawei unauthorized access to the carrier’s fixed-line network in Italy..."[Bloomberg]
Although this was several years ago and was promised to be fixed, nothing was done. The UK further risks being alienated from our closest allies, 5 Eyes and the Angloshere by such debilitating actions; another reason to get free from the EU and the over-reliance on Huawei: "[it] is simply too important to Europe's telecoms infrastructure. Spurning Huawei would put Europe at risk of falling behind the US and China in the race to build out 5G infrastructure."
"Vodafone asked Huawei to remove backdoors in home internet routers in 2011 and received assurances from the supplier that the issues were fixed, but further testing revealed that the security vulnerabilities remained, the documents show. Vodafone also identified backdoors in parts of its fixed-access network known as optical service nodes, which are responsible for transporting internet traffic over optical fibers, and other parts called broadband network gateways, which handle subscriber authentication and access to the internet, the people said. The people asked not to be identified because the matter was confidential."

Obluctation over obmutescent oblivescence...
'Our destiny is frequently met in the very paths we take to avoid it.'
Global Populism Rises To Highest Level Since World War II [Zero Hedge]...of course liberals are blaming the Russians or anything rather than themselves. Looking at the article the other image - "Populism Index" - should give us all cause for concern: not since the late 1930s to 1941 has it been so high.
Of course one could blame the 'populists'* but that would be wrong: certainly in Europe we should blame the EU and all the anti-liberal anti-democratic anti common sense scumbag politicians who have brought us to this crux. Don't blame the effect, blame the cause. It could still be stopped, literally within weeks if the right decisions were to be taken. The fact that the necessary steps are so obvious yet no politician from any leading nation is taking those steps means only one thing: they want a race war and they want a holy war.
* "Populism is a political philosophy supporting the rights and power of the people in their struggle against a privileged elite" [Wiki]. Anyone see anything wrong with that?

Organisational opulence...
With this morning's news that there has been "sufficient progress" i.e. a breakthrough in the EU/UK Brexit 'negotiations' we can all celebrate that today in 1955 The Flag of Europe was first adopted. This was the Council of Europe's flag, which was adopted by the EEC* in 1985. Below is the fantastic Euler diagram that I hadn't seen before about all the European organisations. Worth noting of course that "The Council of Europe is not to be confused with the Council of the European Union (the "Council of Ministers") or the European Council. These belong to the European Union, which is separate from the Council of Europe... The Council of Europe is not to be confused with the European Union itself." [Wiki] **. The blog post title does not of course refer to the disappointing, frustrating, seemingly treacherous, disgusting, fake news, traitor-ridden, back-stabbing, cunt-fest feeding frenzy that are the Brexit negotiations themselves; "challenging" - to use Jean Claude's description - just doesn't do it for me.
*which of course later became the EC and now the EU.
**Got that?

Ordure ocean...
Certainly Shit Creek but with a paddle at least, and most certainly (to quote Boris, always one for a good phrase) "the quintessence of turd polishing pointlessness" [edit] i.e. opposing Jean-Claude Juncker as the next president of the European commission was a complete waste of time; Boris also said it is like "trying to swat a fly on the leg of the rhino that is standing on your chest" LOL.
The Prime Ministers of The UK, Sweden and the Netherlands (David Cameron, Fredrik Reinfelt and Mark Rutte respectively) with German Chancellor Angela Merkel: interestingly these countries have nearly always been the highest per capita net contributors (no disrespect to Austria previously and to Denmark and Finland now and other net contributors as things are more 'balanced' these days.

Ozokerite or oozing oil...

| Bloodlands... |
"Amid the hysterical counter claims from the ‘interim government’ in Kiev supported by $5bn dollars of American money which chased the duly democratically elected government out of town and now condemns as ‘criminal’ the people of Eastern Ukraine holding a referendum to democratically decide their future – there is a three letter word which is conspicuous by its absence. Can you guess what it is yet?" So writes Anna Raccoon with another excellent blog-post about The bitter legacy of the Western Ukraine and a dark sticky liquid oozing out over the plains: not blood but it could be given the history of the Bloodlands.
"Oh – and the responsibility of deciding which way to send the oil oozing from the ground – east to Russia, or west to Europe?"
The comments and the links in the comments are worth a read too: The Strangelove effect with Obama seeking a greater budget for nuclear weapons than during the Cold War and the sinister expansionism of the European Council. Have we been here before? East vs. West? Hopefully not; indeed who could imagine a repeat of the Worst of the Madness in a "region that experienced the worst of both Stalin’s and Hitler’s ideological madness" and "the site of most of the politically motivated killing in Europe... ...between 1933 and 1945, fourteen million people died there, not in combat but because someone made a deliberate decision to murder them."
