Omisoka osechi...

May your special box be bountiful...and beautiful. I like the cut of the Japanese jib: they traditionally (or did) spend the year end with, as one might expect, activities considered important for the year-end: a clean start, house cleaning and tidying, repaying debts (ha!), "purification" (such as driving out evil spirits and bad luck) [Wiki], and personal hygiene/bathing. This chimes exactly with what me and my OCD like to do. That and light a candle. Clean, clear, rest, relax, welcome. best wishes for 2018; totally off topic a couple of quotes from the mighty Albert to end the year:  "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow."... ..."Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." Or an even better quote from Muse: "Don't Waste your Time or Time Will Waste You." It will anyway but don't let it be for nothing!

Omniloquent observer opines on our obscurantic omphaloskepsis...

Brendan O'Neill on the button again, in Spiked-online "In 2017, our response to terrorism became dangerously passive."... "2017 might prove to be the year we caved in to terrorism.". Writing about the official response and our own response.

"In 2017 we witnessed the rise of the terror amnesia industry – an informal but effective effort by the political class and opinion-forming set to shush serious discussion about terrorism; to tame strong emotions post-terror; to make people forget, in essence, the latest bloody destruction of their fellow citizens, or at least stop thinking about it. 'Don't look back…'"

'The terror amnesia industry', yes indeed. The immediate 'Beware of backlash', 'Beware of Islamophobia', the hiding of facts the under-reporting or omission of facts...and in fact the over-reporting and highlighting of anything to deflect attention.

"This is how deeply the West’s moral cowardice now runs: we are not even permitted to name the ideology that motors the murder of our fellow citizens...."A nation that fails to get angry about the slaughter of its children, and which won’t even allow frank discussion about the ideology used to justify that slaughter, is a nation that has lost its moral anchor.

So very true.

Optative olio of observations...

The following posted on Raewald's blog: For Hope, and our Future; I apologise in advance for using his words but he has a way with them! With no further comment from me , well worth a read:

"It's now eighteen months since that momentous referendum, and we're still leaving. With every single day it becomes more and more difficult for the saboteurs to derail the process. The global corporates, their Federast and globalist dags, the Euro bien pensants, has-been politicians, are daily nearer to meltdown and daily more furious. This also makes them daily more dangerous; the dags are being goaded into petty acts of spite, with Remoaner HMRC officials prodded by the Treasury now demanding tax from private Leave referendum donors whilst the vastly richer global corporates escape scot free for their Remain gifts. We may have sighted land, but it will still take some skillful pilotage before we're tied up alongside."...

More snippets:

"More than anything else, social media has enabled the idiocies of neoliberalism, the insanity of distorted morality, the fake news, lies, distortions and deceits of the malign, to be exposed to the disinfectant of sunlight and to laughter. "

"At home and abroad we still face human challenges... ...Do not, I beg you, direct hatred or vituperation towards these people, no matter how devious, dishonest, manipulating or self-interested their behaviour."

"At home we are still failing our own people; ex-armed forces living rough, enduring hardship and privation without complaint. They stood on the line for you and me. We owe them. For our semi-feral urban children, victims of gross sexual abuse and exploitation, victims also of failed official care, of moral relativism, and of our selfishness. We must help them. And heartfelt thanks to all those who keep the law, demand nothing, discharge their social responsibility and ask only for a little pride, a little identity and a little recognition. We owe them, too."

"As each day grows a little brighter I am inspired with hope. Not a surge, but a fleeting butterfly shadow of hope that flickers over the heart and soul. There is a future, a good future, and we can all help shape it. God really is with us if we allow him to be."

Suffice to say I agree entirely. The rest HERE. Merry Christmas.

Od over odd odium...

Why do they hate Britain so much? England even more. Why do the liberal lefty luvvies hate their country and everything to do with it? Orwell was so right: "England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality." And John King over at New Statesman (no, really) writes "Metropolitan intellectual snobbery is part of an older, anti-English racism that runs back through the centuries..." [NS link]. And now the pathetic passport panic; the image above is just a selection of the passports that exist; all are HERE. Of the 189, most are blue (41.74% in fact....my, doesn't that number look familiar to another number: 17.41 million). That said, adding up and higher/lower numbers has seemed difficult for Remainers.  Also, the UK has a 'power rank' of 3rd with 159 countries where we can visit visa-free;  there are only 3 countries (2 rankings) who have more visa-free entry the highest being Germany with 161.

Well, apart from the rubbish about it costing 500 million quid to change (it will cost NOTHING, nada, zero, zilch, extra - only what would have been spent anyway - probably in 2020) we will still have the same rank, unless the EU decides to be fucking pricks. Now, hold on, I know what you're thinking: "Many in the EU are fucking pricks!", (especially, it seems, the European Parliament's representative in the Brexit negotiations Guy Verhoffystuffy who seems not to have read THIS when he said THIS... maybe they would have allowed us Annex II point D) and they may well do this but the European countries will not; so quite what all the ridiculous shitters are moaning about is I don't know, one can only presume they are fuckwits, professors and all.

Overheated Obama officials...

"It's no coincidence that these overheated condemnations accompany abundant evidence that the Trump administration is finding its legs." The Death Rattle of Obama’s Reputation: [LINK]

"In nearly all respects, it was Obama’s White House, not Trump’s, that adopted an ideological foreign policy and rendered the U.S. and the world less safe as a result."

I don't think President Trump's administration ever lost its legs; it just tensed them against the barrage of hate: it is just that the howling democrat media, the Obama stay-behind army and assorted loons are realising that all their conspiracies (that from March but almost constant since an 20/01/17) falsities and fake news are wearing thin as each one becomes eschewed, overturned, uncovered and debunked. The FBI must be recruiting full-steam to replace all those that are having to resign.

Sharks may be circling soon on another deserving candidate.

O Oriens...

O Oriens,

splendor lucis aeternae, et sol justitiae:

veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.

"The sun of righteousness shall rise." ..."I am the light of the world". ..."Hence it is that He was born on the day which is the shortest in our earthly reckoning and from which subsequent days begin to increase in length. He, therefore, who bent low and lifted us up chose the shortest day, yet the one whence light begins to increase."

Winter Solstice... Saturnalia... Dies Natalis Solis Invicti... Yule... Noel... Father Christmas.

Still waiting but it's all happening!

Organisational opulence...

With this morning's news that there has been "sufficient progress" i.e. a breakthrough in the EU/UK Brexit 'negotiations' we can all celebrate that today in 1955 The Flag of Europe was first adopted. This was the Council of Europe's flag, which was adopted by the EEC* in 1985. Below is the fantastic Euler diagram that I hadn't seen before about all the European organisations. Worth noting of course that "The Council of Europe is not to be confused with the Council of the European Union (the "Council of Ministers") or the European Council. These belong to the European Union, which is separate from the Council of Europe... The Council of Europe is not to be confused with the European Union itself." [Wiki] **. The blog post title does not of course refer to the disappointing, frustrating, seemingly treacherous, disgusting, fake news, traitor-ridden, back-stabbing, cunt-fest feeding frenzy that are the Brexit negotiations themselves; "challenging" - to use Jean Claude's description - just doesn't do it for me.

*which of course later became the EC and now the EU.

**Got that?

Ostensible oligarchic overlords...

"With each passing day I grow happier and happier that I voted for Brexit." Me too. "Ireland, the EU is playing you like a fiddle", so writes Brendan O'Neill in today's (yesterday's on UK time) Spectator. He is so, so right. The EU is being true to form: "cynical, divisive and dangerous"; I would add sinister, single-minded and cuntish. The Irish are being soft but trying to find some way of buffering the fact that, as of 2016, actually have to contribute to the EU coffers, instead of being a net recipient for the previous forty odd years; I guess that is easy to understand.

All that was exacerbated today with a plethora of fake news. She said, he said they said...all without any quotes at all, just hear-say about what would happen re the Irish border. A whole day of complete made-up shit. Instant access 24 hour round the clock ticker-tape news is getting worse. The tail is now wagging several dogs! Just wait for the news then give the facts please. Also, you. uttertwats. (apologies for so many Twatter links).

Update: double twat khant!

Outsider odds orison...

Live in hope. "...[Political Betting's] assumption is that the next Tory leadership contest won’t be until 2019, so it might be wise to look at the current leadership polling and betting markets and assume whoever leads and is the favourite won’t be Theresa May’s successor. Just look at the odds on the next Tory leader in October 1974, a little over three months later the 50/1 outsider won" (image). By the same token and from the same source, "Ten days before he became Tory leader, only 5% of  [all] voters preferred John Major as Tory leader.".

This is a pity because Jacob Rees-Mogg and David Davis are the two current favourites and I would prefer either to the empty space we have now. I take that back: TM is actually WORSE than an empty space or at least seems to be making every effort to appear so. Add John Redwood, Owen Paterson, Priti Patel, Liam Fox, Kemi Badenoch, Boris Johnson etc., to Rees-Mogg and Davis and the Conservative Party may attract some Conservatives again.

Odious oleaginous olid oblocutor...

The evil, treacherous vampire squid scum that is Tony Blair just refuses to go away. The zombie appearance combines with a zombie characteristic of just not dying enough. In any other century he would have been executed long ago. He has written to his co New Labour slime-ball cunt Alastair Campbell with a 'secret memo': "My 12-point plan for stopping Brexit". [LINK].

Hang on a minute...this must be a spoof: "Your skill at putting a first-class case for second-rate policies served us well in the old days before Gordon messed it all up"...simply the truth but so strange to think Blair would utter any truth.

In fact he reveals a few home truths: "Much as cosmopolitans like you, me and Peter [Mandelson, the third of the four - with Gordon Brown - new Labour traitors who should be in the deepest darkest dungeon of the land] love the EU, it was always a deal designed to suit the interests of France and Germany rather than Britain....". Obvious but worth restating always. "Another fear campaign won’t work."...'another', revealing, eh?

"Accept that Britain has its problems but don’t admit to the scale of a disaster which can be blamed on us." Ha! At least he realises the shitefest he has brought down on us. "Warn about galloping inflation rather than the cheaper food available outside EU agricultural protectionism.".

"Don’t fraternise with the enemy or run to Juncker, Merkel or Macron. All these pilgrimages (mea culpa) make it look as though we’re helping them and snitching on Britain"...Yes, it does. So much truth, no wonder this was supposed to be 'secret'!

Obstrobogulous obtenebration...

What a great image and yes, it is a joke. Really funny, hilarious even...however you can tell it hurts the leftie luvvies; the smarty-pants replies on Jerry Travone's Twitter feed are quite good, some actually funny and clever: but you can tell they didn't like it; take Ed Krassenstein‏ for instance ('the lady doth protest too much, methinks'); oh he's hurting, which makes it even funnier.

Online odium II...

"Hate is hate. Online abusers must be dealt with harshly." Really? Hate is hate? No it isn't, in the same article it has their definition of hate crime, "recognised by the CPS and police, is 'any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice'". Worth repeating: 'perceived by the victim or any other person'; yes the same crap thought crime laws bought in by New Labour are being enforced and increased by the current powers that be.

So hate isn't hate: hate is what someone thinks is hate, and that someone may have very good reasons for saying they think it is hate. So looking at a BME (oh yes) the wrong way and saying something they don't like, anything, even if it's what you you say to friends and family, or leaving a bacon sandwich outside a Mosque, could be treated the same or worse as grooming, drugging, raping and gang raping [underage] girls... actually it already is worse because the former two are prosecuted immediately (in fact the second got a death sentence) whilst the latter is ignored for 20 years.

Both Alison Saunders's (CPS director of public prosecutions) piece in the Guardian (interesting choice given it's blinkered and shrinking readership and 'antisemitic' connections) and the Guardian follow-ups refer to the 'extremist hate seen in Charlottesville', you just know they do not mean the illegally gathering armed and dangerous Antifa (ha!) thugs. (Odd how the Governor etc who - as in Berkeley, California back in February - withdrew police and security)...so you just know what these new powers will do and it most definitely will not be equality before the law. Imagine if I were to say that anyone who follows the Koran - which calls for the death, enslavement or prejudiced treatment of ANYONE that doesn't follow the Koran - was evil, imagine that. Who do you think would be prosecuted if a case were brought to court? A Muslim? Any Muslim? A 'victim'? Or me for saying it? It is very easy to see where this is heading and the CPS - and increasing the Police - are complicit in the emasculation of the law, the destruction of a nation and the torture and slow death of a whole ethnicity.  "All CPS Areas have a Hate Crime Coordinator who undertakes performance management, community and stakeholder engagement and the implementation of legal policy and guidance within the Area." WTF? Jesus Wept.

Overt obtuseness...

An excellent cartoon; there are many similar ones but this variation on a theme is one of the goodies, as is Branco's Socialism or Bust. Why oh why do so many grown-up otherwise sensible politicians not seem to realise? The SJWs, lefty fuckwits, wankerati and media dick-heads one can understand being biased and blinkered but when elected politicians (in UK, USA and elsewhere) say the same things - and mean it! - we should be worried.

Online oblivescence...

A changing landscape, increased 'link rot' (digital decay, careful: article is titled Error 404): "The internet is stitched together by an incalculable number of hyperlinks, but much like cells in an organism, the sources and destinations have a finite lifespan. Essentially, links can and do die." (Nick Routley on Visual Capitalist; John Bowers, Harvard LIL)

"The Million Dollar Homepage lives on as a perfect record of that wacky time in internet history – or so it seems. However, the reality is that many of the hyperlinks on the canvas are now redirects that send incoming users to other sites, while over 20% of them are simply dead."

This is more worrying than you may think, e.g. 49% of the hyperlinks in US Supreme Court decisions are now broken [Yale study, pdf], or - worse still - many of the links in blog-posts from the 12 year Owsblog archive are now unreachable too :-(

Occidental obeliscolychny...

Out of Africa towards the occidental obeliscolychny, the western beacon. The beacon of hope, the beacon of benefits. Europe is suffering a MASSIVE influx from Africa, they are being trafficked illegally across the Mediterranean Sea by misinformed and misguided NGOs and charities.

There has always been economic migrations but this recent influx of illegals has been going on for YEARS; more recently has accelerated vastly. In Spain in 2005 an amnesty was given to illegal immigrants giving them a chance to apply for residency, which of course gave them access to the whole EU. A natural consequence of this was more illegal immigration, exactly what the Spanish were told at the time both by their opposition and others! And so it was, in 2007 Spain was demanding much higher contributions from the EU frontier control budget for its southern border. Jump to 2015: "The multinational, multicultural and multi-religious exodus is managed and exploited by militias, criminal gangs and corrupt officials in a chain that stretches from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe." and Europol. Or 2016: "The recent findings – which are the first from new efforts in Italy to monitor migration flows through North Africa – provide strong evidence of predatory behaviour by smugglers and traffickers and the kinds of enabling environments within which trafficking and associated forms of exploitation and abuse thrive." And GEFIRA, "Caught in the act: NGOs deal in migrant smuggling"..." The NGOs are known, the boats are known.

The evidence is endless and complete; the EU has been complicit and is only now realising what it has unleashed. The ludicrous allowing of millions of "refugees" from Syria etc has spread to a major mafia led taxi service (literally) to benefit-giving Europe.

On top of this we are constantly told to have fewer babies because it harms the environment whilst at the same time we are told that immigration is vital as we are not having babies. Does. Not. Compute. Anyway, very few people realise just how FUCKING HUGE Africa is. They come and will come in droves for the free houses, the streets paved with gold, the land of milk and honey; they may not even have to work for it as the welfare benefits are so generous: see map and list HERE.

Overly opulent...

Interesting info graphic from Jeff Desjardins over at the Money Project: The Richest People in Human History (Part 1) [Link]. Obviously visit the site and zoom the image to get all the detail. I'll look forward to subsequent parts.

Obviously (as the write-up states) this is very difficult to get equivalence with more modern or present times and depends who you ask and what conversions etc are used but it does throw up some good bits: right place, right time backing the winner was Alan Rufus who William I made the 1st Lord of Richmond - a large chunk of northern England who - by "1086 he had become one of the richest and most powerful men of England" [Wiki]; or Solomon's wealth measured in trillions. And who had heard of Jakob Fugger, the Rockefeller of the 15th & 16th centuries; the "most influential businessman of all time"?

Oncoming oneirodynia osmesis...

"An extra 68,000 teachers from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds need to be recruited to reflect England's school population, figures show. Just 13% of state-funded schools' teachers are currently from a BME background..." the BBC tells us. Now you may think 13% sounds about right, you may recall the consensus/ONS [Link] saying that England & Wales ethnicity has fallen to 86% (it was 94%+ in 1991) ...sooo, 14% non white pretty much equates to the numbers within the teacher ranks: 13%. However, the BBC goes on to say (finishing the sentence) "...compared to 27% of pupils." Let that sink in, that last bit: 27% of pupils in England's state school population are from black or minority ethic backgrounds. 27%! WTF? Of course that is the average; looking at the image you'll see it can reach 90% in some areas.

Outstanding oration III...

Sorry to be a bit behind the curve but I have been (and will be some more next week) in rural Central and South America. The Donald in outstanding form. The hour came years ago; has - at long last - the man cometh?  President Trump's "remarks" to the People of Poland last week, full text HERE; video HERE.

"This continent no longer confronts the specter of communism. But today we’re in the West, and we have to say there are dire threats to our security and to our way of life. You see what’s happening out there. They are threats. We will confront them. We will win. But they are threats."..."We are confronted by another oppressive ideology - one that seeks to export terrorism and extremism all around the globe. America and Europe have suffered one terror attack after another. We’re going to get it to stop."...

..."Finally, on both sides of the Atlantic, our citizens are confronted by yet another danger -- one firmly within our control. This danger is invisible to some but familiar to the Poles: the steady creep of government bureaucracy that drains the vitality and wealth of the people. The West became great not because of paperwork and regulations but because people were allowed to chase their dreams and pursue their destinies."

..."What we have, what we inherited from our -- and you know this better than anybody, and you see it today with this incredible group of people -- what we've inherited from our ancestors has never existed to this extent before. And if we fail to preserve it, it will never, ever exist again. So we cannot fail."

..."Our citizens did not win freedom together, did not survive horrors together, did not face down evil together, only to lose our freedom to a lack of pride and confidence in our values. We did not and we will not. We will never back down."

These are just snippets.

Online obluctation...

[edited: 'dead' video/image removed

Another ransomware attack could mean life online gets scarier (surely nothing to do BO, one hopes); the latest seems to be about causing chaos rather than extorting money: that said, causing chaos means sites that are down can't make money! [edited]. Despite two recent 'global' attacks ransomware is still below 1% of online offenders. This chart found HERE. "Malware has come a long way in the last ten years... ...the number of new malware specimen is likely to reach more than 7.4 million this year alone. Albeit this number seems to spell bad news only, the data also indicates that the malware growth rate is slowing."

Our obsequent oblectation...

Joy and pleasure at going in the opposite direction. Happy Anniversary! Our Brexit Day. Our Independence Day...we will certainly not be alone in the world; in fact a majority believe we won't be alone in leaving the EU! "Polling found that 64% of Britons believe that one or more countries could follow in the UK’s footsteps and leave the EU. 57% of Italians, 52% of Germans and 49% of the French think the same." [Link]

Ossoff off...

Karen Handel has done an amazing thing: in a race that was overly expensive and received more than usual national attention (mainly because it was seen as a possible sign of a turning of the tide in the popularity of Donald Trump's presidency) she not only beat the Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff by a Brexitesque margin but in doing so became the first Republican woman to be elected to U.S. Congress from Georgia. And she isn't a shrinking violet RINO, oh no: she is against a minimum wage; supports The Donald's decision to leave the Paris Climate Agreement; opposes abortion; opposes same-sex marriage AND same-sex civil partnerships; she opposes gay adoption of children and totally against any amnesty for illegal immigrants. But most of all...she gave us the wonderful faces of the CNN staff (CNN is based in Atlanta for you UK folk who may not know). So funny.

Ochlocracy oneirodynia...

Picture credit: Rex in the Metro

Imagine government by mob, it would be a nightmare. We saw how lefty groups couldn't take the Brexit vote and we saw it with Trump in the USA: these days many 'of the Left' don't seem to understand how democracy works.

Yesterday in London there were more "Deniers of Democracy" in an anti-Theresa May demonstration at Downing Street despite the Conservative Party easily (albeit an unexpected disappointment in terms of seat numbers) winning the election, "Demonstrators chanting with megaphones have been joined by Lily Allen this evening as they refuse to accept the Conservative win".

More HERE, yes, it's the usual suspects (see link and image). Thought this was interesting: putting the "disaster" of this week in perspective: highest ever UK GE winning vote counts:

  1. John Major 14,093,007 (1992) 41.9%

  2. Margaret Thatcher 13,760,935 (1987) 42.2%

  3. Margaret Thatcher 13,697,923 (1979) 43.9%

  4. Theresa May 13,667,213 (2017) 42.4%

  5. Tony Blair 13,518,167 (1997) 43.2%
