Obviously owing...
Well well well. What a surprise...NOT! Labour are hypocrites. The UK's main political parties all filed financial reports this week; "Labour’s total income for 2013 was £33.3m, far ahead of the Tories on £25.4m and the Lib Dems on £7.3m." From the Financial Times [Link ££].
On those vast incomes what tax was paid? Well last year The Conservatives paid 187 thousand quid, guess what Labour paid? £14,000. The Conservatives paid twelve times more tax on income of 25% less! Apparently the Lib Dems paid only £14 tax (yep, fourteen pounds).
Now nobody would begrudge trying to minimise what you pay in tax, as David Blackburn at The Spectator says, we should 'commend Labour for their careful tax planning', HOWEVER, when they do one thing but say another there's only one word for it: HYPOCRITES! There are so many other Labour tax-rise policies, and death won't save you.

Ousted Owen's outing...
An outing in the 'day out' meaning I hasten to add! The Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP, the former (since earlier this week!**) Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will be giving the annual lecture to the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) on 15th October (Institution of Mechanical Engineers by invitation only). Should be interesting!
The GWPF was founded by Lord Lawson amongst others but due to this has a reputation of being purely 'climate sceptic'; however it has "developed a distinct set of principles that set us apart from most other stakeholders in the climate debates:
- The GWPF does not have an official or shared view about the science of global warming – although we are of course aware that this issue is not yet settled.
- On climate science, our members and supporters cover a broad range of different views, from the IPCC position through agnosticism to outright scepticism.
- Our main focus is to analyse global warming policies and their economic and other implications. Our aim is to provide the most robust and reliable economic analysis and advice.
- We regard observational evidence and understanding the present as more important and more reliable than computer modelling or predicting the distant future.
Above all we seek to inform the media, politicians and the public, in a newsworthy way, on the subject in general and on the misinformation to which they are all too frequently being subjected at the present time."
** It seems a pity, he was obviously a good Environment Minister ("best in a generation" perhaps) and "is one of a tiny number of genuine countrymen in modern politics" (Peter Oborne, DT). Plus he's a 'real' right-winger, a climate sceptic who supported fracking, anti wind farms and to cap it all being married to the sister of the Rational Optimist. :-)

"The indiscriminate rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel are terrorist acts, for which there is no justification. It is evident that Hamas is deliberately using human shields to further terror in the region. Canada calls on its allies and partners to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable and that solidarity with Israel is the best way of stopping the conflict. Canada is unequivocally behind Israel. We support its right to defend itself, by itself, against these terror attacks, and urge Hamas to immediately cease their indiscriminate attacks on innocent Israeli civilians. Olé, Olé, Olé...OUCH...

The slogan that was on the the side of Brazil's World Cup team coach read "PREPAREM-SE! O HEXA ESTÁ CHEGANDO!", [edit] meaning 'Brace Yourself - The Sixth Is Coming'. LOL... Well on the beautiful horizon they shipped 7 (seven!) equalling their worse loss ever (in 1920 to Uruguay; I think Oscar in the final minute spared them a stand-alone all-time worst defeat). As for the German's: Blitz K.O., Gott ist mit ihnen and so was every single person I have spoken to over the last 4 days (and that is in three different countries without including those on-line etc), when was the last time that probably every English football fan was hoping for a German football victory?
This was the biggest win in a World Cup semi-final and it goes without saying that Germany scored more goals in 3 minutes against Brazil than England did in entire World Cup [edit] I've just read a comment that says that the 7 (seven) is two more goals than England have scored in their last TWO World Cup campaigns combined! FFS!
Most thought it would be Klose but Brazil have reached a new Loew being Mullered by a Germany on Kroos control...I'll get my coat.
What team has EVER scored four goals in 6 minutes, three of those in 3 minutes let alone in a World Cup semi against Brazil in Brazil! Unsurprisingly, tonight was the earliest any team has been 5-0 up in a World Cup match, ever...and this against Brazil in Brazil. Miroslav Klose got his 16th goal in World Cups becoming the new all-time record goal scorer in World Cups. Muller becomes only the 3rd player to get 5 or more goals in two different world Cups (one of the others of course is him team-mate Klose).
The Germans were superb in every position showing, demonstrating o jogo bonito; as one comment said on the BBC, 'turns out training and ability are more important than shouting a national anthem whilst crying'...I'm with Stuart from Deal: "Stop commiserating with the Brazilians, who have been dreadful all tournament, and start praising the Germans who have been absolutely brilliant" and who have surely produced one of the best World Cup wins ever.
I would like to stick the boot in, twist the knife: I am glad (and had hoped) that Germany would crush an obviously poor Brazil. That feeling became intense and I wanted humiliation and destruction when I saw what IMHO was a pathetic gesture of one player that should have got a red card in the quarter final and another that should have had at least 5 yellow and two red cards over the course of 5 games holding the shirt of another player would should also have got at least two red cards in previous games. And I got it: justice was done, the fraud revealed in the most beautifully brutal way. Croatia, Mexico, Chile and Colombia were all cheated against both by Brazil and the officials. The other night, Neymar, having lived by the sword so much, finally died by it (who thought he was really injured when he first went down...btw, fractured vertebrae? Pants) and along with him it seems any semblance to a football team: 'It's safe to say that Thiago Silva was holding this defence together'. They got what was coming having cheated and fouled their way well beyond what their football deserved - my real dream of Argentina crushing Brazil in the final now cannot come true, but this was a good second!

Odalisque original...
Odalisque in Red Pants, a painting by Henri Matisse has been handed back to Venezuela by the USA officials. Having been stolen in the early noughties it was found two years ago in Miami. An odalik was a sort of chambermaid/understudy concubine, and if she had 'extraordinary beauty or had exceptional talents in dancing or singing' [Wiki]
Later, the word odalisque came to refer to a mistress of a wealthy man or, for some Turks, a wife: "If any lady possesses a pretty-looking slave, the fact soon gets known. The gentlemen who wish to buy an odalisque or a wife, make their offers. Many Turks, indeed, prefer to take a slave as a wife, as, in such case, there is no need to dread fathers, mothers, or brothers-in-law, and other undesirable relations."

There, Alex mentions that "according to current legislation, it is illegal for foreign corporations to own newspapers in Venezuela" ...so maybe we can guess where at least some of that countries stolen assets are going.

There, Alex mentions that "according to current legislation, it is illegal for foreign corporations to own newspapers in Venezuela" ...so maybe we can guess where at least some of that countries stolen assets are going.
