Anyhooo, this blog-post title 'Only one oasis' is of course Ows humour - stolen from someone somewhere online, where or whom I can't recall - for 'just a waterhole', or juste en trou d'eau in French, which of course is Justin Trudeau (I'll get my coat...). Castrito of course is no longer the glistening sweet fresh water he seemed to be, no oasis in the desert but a stagnant bio-film slime covered dirty puddle: shallow, ugly and dangerous.

Interestingly, as reported earlier last week, Castrito called on the Big Banks and Big Tech* to help restore public order by seizing donations, 'outing' those who donated, and threatening freezing corporate AND personal bank accounts: all the while calling the peaceful protestors (not a single violent episode in the whole period) racists, misogynists, terrorists and even 'people who wave swastikas'. 

Many things about this should worry everyone and yet STILL not a single Western leader has condemned anything about the Canadian situation...in fact isn't the deafening silence something else that should worry us all? Yes. Credit to the exceptions (to the quote below I would add NZ, also led by an increasingly shaky sounding weak and dangerous zealot, shaky because I actually think she believed the shit she was spouting and is only now trying to see how she can get out of the hole): 

"The real war is not in Ukraine, it’s in Canada, Australia, France, Brussels, England, Germany, Italy...They just want you to look the other way."

...one of two things ruling the internet this weekend, and it isn't Truck Fudeau. No, as you can tell by the blog-post title (you couldn't?) it's the Neil Young/Spotify/Joe Rogan thing. Surfing away I landed at Riggery Pokery and enjoyed the succinct turn of phrase on the arrogance of certainty; nothing like a good rant; indeed I enjoyed the frisson but no skin orgasm...but I did laugh a lot. 

I don’t particularly want to single out Neil Young here, he’s far from being the only one - but he has rather raised his wrinkly buggeration of a visage above the parapet. He is representative of a very worrying trend that has emerged. Where has this rising trend of fascist fuckwittery come from? 

"Who the holy fuck is Neil Young to determine what I can, and cannot, listen to?
Arrogant shite."

Happy UK Independence Day! 23rd June 2016 was the day - to great shock from everyone - we voted Brexit. Two years on we are still wrangling about various details but the date is set. Worth a read of The Mogg's words "Brexit and Beyond: Britain’s Place in the World in the 2020s" [Brexit Central]. He is one of the very few - even among government Brexiteers - that refuses to be negative. John Redwood is another, here on The Commentator praising the US Ambassador who say we should be more positive: “To see this defeatist attitude towards Brexit is a bit sorrowing to me,”...isn't it embarrassing that we have to be told?

Rees-Mogg ends with "I have always thought that by and large, individuals making decisions for themselves, make better decisions than others can do for them. This applies on the national scale too. The nation state can make better decisions for itself than other nations can impose upon it. I believe it for the United Kingdom and I believe it for other nations around the world. That is the opportunity for the UK in 2020 and beyond. It is to have confidence in ourselves to make the alliances that will lead to success and to ensure that we have the right economic policies in place."

And if mistakes are made, they are OUR mistakes.

Things are heating up in Venezuela: now it isn't a case of 'We want a recount!', it has turned into "You stole the election!". [English] [Spanish]. The Electoral Commission has now dis-guarded even a pretence of being unbiased (and they still insist any vote audit - whenever they finally decide to say it might be - won't affect the election outcome!) and last night the fast-losing-any-credibility government decided to interrupt the broadcast: just as Capriles challenged the government his speech was interrupted by mandatory government broadcasting on all TV and radio networks! As Daniel says, "a cadena is the forced commandeering by the state of ALL TV AND RADIO STATIONS for a simultaneous broadcast". Why would this happen...well some may say that certain people need a Chavista to maintain power...and the Cubans in Venezuela that supervise many government offices and agencies, plus law enforcement, intelligence and military may have something to do with it. Just saying; HCR better watch his back...

The exclusion tabled a couple of hours ago by Lord Lucas and hopefully to be adopted by the Lords will exclude 'A publisher who does not exceed the definition of a small or medium-sized enterprise.' On Monday, the Lords will vote on the legislation “underpinning” the Royal Charter on press-self regulation...And the Blog Off campaign could use your support:

It is controlled by no one — no single organisation, individual, or government. It connects the world. Today, more than two billion people are online — about a third of the planet."

Now it appears HMRC is getting worried: "An increasing number of debtors aim to deliberately stall recovery of debts by referring to obscure legislation, payment methods etc..." [Link to HMRC manual] Click on image to link to screenshot in case previous disappears!

'Where the correspondence clearly meets the above criteria, you should immediately refer all the correspondence for advice to: (This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000) 
Where you are in any doubt if the correspondence meets the criteria, you should telephone the appropriate contact point for advice.
Experience has shown that it would be unusual for a debtor to raise obscure issues such as described above for the first time in a face to face situation; however Field Force and other DMB staff undertaking outdoor work should be alert to the potential situation.
(This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000) 

On no account should debtors be given details of any of the internal contact points.'
