Orgasmic olisbos…

Olisbos or more acturately their predecessors: The history of vibrators! Vivienne Parry's penetrating and arousing article in this weekend's Times Women's Style section (I just happened to notice it…) is hilarious; in fact it's hysterical, literally – you'll see what I mean.

Despite first being 'diagnosed' as 'womb furie', women have always suffered a "complaint characterised by nervousness, fluid retention, insomnia and lack of appetite." The great Hippocrates called it hysteria thinking that the womb was blocked and causing the problem (Greek for womb = hysteros). Galen, a Greek physician way ahead of his time in more ways than one, was on the right track because he claimed it wasn’t any blockage but in fact sexual deprivation among women of a 'passionate nature' or those who weren’t passionate at all, either through choice or not: "nuns, virgins, widows and occasionally in married women whose husbands were not up to the job". Galen said

"Arising from the touch of the genital organs required by the treatment, there follows twitchings accompanied at the same time by pain and pleasure...from that time she is free of all the evil she felt"

The trouble was that doctors regarded this treatment as numbingly tedious...ha-ha, the image in my mind is indeed hysterical – those doctors! Who would have thought it, eh? However not all agreed, maybe due to religion: the Persian polymath Avicenna said

"Women [with hysteria] should not resort to rubbing,”…[this was ]… “a man's job, suitable only for husbands and doctors".

Orgasm by hoseThe image is of an 1860 water treatment - to save the doctors having to do it – and was claimed to 'free the evil' in less than four minutes

Come the 1870s and steam power helped 'The Manipulator' do the business but it was not suitable for the doctor's treatment room and so was a "a niche market poised for exploitation"…what a profession!

The first British vibrator, a battery device, was manufactured in the early 1880s and by the early 20th century electrification made vibrators available in the home. Interestingly they were available a full decade before either the washing machine or vacuum cleaner – getting the priorities right! Keep 'em happy to keep 'em working!

Click HERE for a slide show about the history of vibrators on Slate.com it is interesting - no really!! – some of the contraptions look more suited to a workshop and if you ever found your grandmothers' or great-grandmothers' sewing/knitting magazines it may have been something else altogether they were interested in - easing forehead creases!

Odd Orgasmic Ordeal…

hmmmm chocolateDeath by chocolate could be a cake or a pie/tart/cocktail/ whatever and, of course, it could also be DEATH by chocolate. This guy nearly found out whether it would be a ‘good way to go’: “US man survives chocolate ordeal”

A 21-year-old US man ended up in hospital after spending two hours trapped in a vat of chocolate, police in Wisconsin said on Friday. The last line of the article is classic: “The accident involved dark chocolate”. Yeah, right! Pheeeewee [wipes forehead], imagine if it had been full milk or fruit and nut – no way he would’ve survived! He said that he had climbed into the tank before becoming trapped waist-deep in chocolate…
However; and to make it sound mysterious, other reports suggest he was stirring the chocolate when he fell in. Rescue workers and staff at the Debelis Corporation (their Spanish origins aren't far from me) used cocoa-butter to thin out the chocolate and pull him free…I can just imagine him sinking whilst they stir the recipe…hang on, just a little more, not quite enough, needs a little something…

"Forget love...I'd rather fall in chocolate!" Author unknown
Enough of that! He survived. Now chocolate…[hmmmm]: it’s made from the fermented, roasted, and ground beans taken from the pod of the tropical cacao tree, Theobroma cacao, originally a native to Mesoamerica, which is distinguished by being the first region in the Americas to develop complex civilizations…no wonder – they loved chocolate! However back then it wasn’t the food we know today.

Chocolate residue found in ancient Maya pots tells us that they were drinking (one assumes) chocolate 2,600 years ago, which is the earliest record of cacao use although there are thoughts that their predecessors
the Olmecs would have also used it. The Aztecs associated chocolate with Xochiquetzal, their goddess of fertility, and this association with deity exists today: the genus name of the cacao tree is called Theobroma cacao (From modern Latin Theobroma, literally "food of the Gods", from Greek broma, "food".)

Xocoatl was taken as a bitter and spicy drink often seasoned with chili pepper, vanilla or other spice and believed to fight fatigue (most probably the theobromine content…more on that later). Chocolate was an important luxury item and cocoa beans were often used as currency.

Both Christopher Columbus and Hernán Cortés were associated with first bringing it to Europe, the latter in 1528; however the first recorded commercial shipment of chocolate to the ‘Old World’ for commercial purposes wasn’t until over half a century later, from Veracruz to Seville around 1585.

"The divine drink which builds up resistance & fights fatigue. A cup ofthis precious drink permits man to walk for a whole day without food."
…I bet that’s not all Cortés said: it being an aphrodisiac isn’t proven although Montezuma drank xocolatl in goblets before entering his harem, (ahem).

It was still served as a drink, but the Europeans (mainly Spanish nobility at first) added sugar and milk to counteract the natural bitterness and removed the chili pepper and only used vanilla (another Mexican spice). These improvements to the taste meant that by the 1600’s it was more popular albeit
luxury item.

When the chocolate drink was introduced into England in the 1650s, it was an expensive luxury. The first London Chocolate House was opened in 1657 and chocolate, probably made from blocks of chocolate prepared and imported from Spain, was served as a fashionable drink alongside ale, beer and coffee. Heavy import duties kept its price high (about 6-8d a pound, equivalent to the daily wage for a labourer) in the 17th century. It was not until the Industrial Revolution, when transport became easier and import taxes were reduced, that the price of chocolate fell and it became available to a larger percentage of the population.
For some reason it was over 200 years before a solid form was available but even then it was to melt down to make the drink: not until 1828, did things take a dramtic turn - and not by someone who’s name rolls off the tongue - : not only did Dutchman Coenraad Johannes van Houten patent a method for extracting the fat (or most of it) from cocoa beans to leave the powdered cocoa and cocoa butter separate but he also developed what is now called the ‘Dutch process’ of removing the bitter taste by treating the chocolate with alkali. God there must be a shrine to him somewhere!

Then come the big names: in 1847, Joseph Fry, a chemist and doctor of a Bristol Quaker family started, amongst other things, a chocolate factory, produced what was arguably the world's first eating chocolate 'chocolate delicieux à manger'. Soon to follow was Cadbury in 1849. Then almost 20 years later in 1867, Daniel Peter, a Swiss chocolate manufacturer, had the idea of using powdered milk that he got from the Swiss chemist who had developed it, one Henri Nestle, and what is probably the final step in the distinctive taste of the chocolate we eat today, Rodolphe Lindt invented the process called conching, which is where the chocolate solids are heated and then very finely ground resulting in the ‘melt in the mouth’ texture. There is a chemical reason for that it’s to do with the
fatty acid profile of the cocoa butter…but that’s another story.

Strange it took so long to get round to adding milk, especially when the Spanish had been adding vanilla over 300 years before. All that said and done we know nowadays of the various benefits attributed to chocolate consumption: for starters it contains phenol anti-oxidants (processing decreases their contents)…

Scientists have found that one 'square' of milk chocolate contains almost the same amount of phenols as a glass of red wine and that plain, dark chocolate contains even higher amounts.

Dietetics professionals must be aware that chocolate cravings are real. The psychopharmacologic and chemosensory effects of chocolate must be considered when formulating recommendations for overall healthful eating and for treatment of nutritionally related health issues.

…and added to all that is the feel-good factor, the theobromine etc, but this has never been satisfactorily proven because all palatable foods stimulate endorphin release in the brain; scientists now believe would be from the response in the brain
opioid peptide systems :-/

hmmmm more chocolate...and as an aphrodisiac? remembering back to what Cortez said about anti-fatigue, Montezuma and his harem, other such tales as Casanova who made a habit of consuming chocolate before lovemaking and Madame Du Barry, or whom it was said, that she plied her lovers with chocolate to whip up their ardor in gratifying her lust (oh I say!), all this led to the belief that it was an aphrodisiac but both the fact that during a woman's monthly cycle her body craves magnesium (good chocolate is high in Mg), and
this article from Sarah-Kate Templeton in The Times “Women really are hot for chocolate” (I wonder if that’s a picture of you Sarah-Kate? Wow!), tend to lend weight to the pleasure factor assisting women.

Dr Andrea Salonia, a urologist from San Raffaele hospital, Milan and author of the study (NOT by the confectionery industry)

“Women who have a daily intake of chocolate showed higher levels of desire than women who did not have this habit. Chocolate can have a positive physiological impact on a woman’s sexuality.”

— women who have a low libido could even become more amorous after eating chocolate. He believes chocolate could be particularly medicinal for women who shun sex because they are suffering from premenstrual tension.
Ah well, who cares if it’s moreish (addictive!): any questions at all go to chocolate.org – wonderful site, here are their FAQ’s. All I care about is that overall it’s good for you (oh YES it is!), apart from all that previously mentioned, it full of the usual trace elements and vitamins; chocolate won’t rot your teeth (that’s the sugar) won’t give you spots (that’s the milk) I guess it’s a combination of the fatigue-busting, squidgy (is that a word?) melting, pleasure-giving that makes it seem so…so...I’ve got to stop because there is so much to say I could go on and on; in fact I could do with a chocolate covered goody right now…hmmmmmm

Octopussy orgies...

...it is thought that what happens is that the male injects his sperm packages into the female's arms. The process is likely to be a fairly violent affair as the female is probably not that keen on being injected. This is a problem for the amorous male as females are normally a third bigger than they are.

"But males get round their inferior size by being endowed with a particularly long penis, which means they can inject the female without having to get too close to her chomping beak. The male's sexual organ is actually a bit like a high-pressure fire hose and is normally nearly as long as his body - excluding legs and head.

I thought that may get your interest. Quoted from here where, as a footnote to his post, PZ Meyers adds, “Forget March of the Penguins. There's a great documentary waiting to be made here: Squid Gone Wild. Cephalopod Sex Party." although strictly speaking he is referring to giant squid and not octopus...I wonder if he has similar fanatasies to me?… "I’m jealous of the multi-tasking tendriled/ tentacled, polymorphous orgasm-inducing powers of a series of fictional plants, aliens and cephalopod or gastropod molluscs!"...taken from the 2nd of Owsblog’s orgasm posts.

Orgies always seem to involve images of wild gatherings including excessive drinking and promiscuity or of secret cults of ancient Greek or Roman deities with singing, dancing and drinking and often rites of sexual activity - early and tribal cultures had some group sex rituals associated with fertility and spring but these are not especially well-documented. In fact not until Greek and Roman Empires that a common word for those rituals emerged - orgia, in both Latin and Greek. Although many believe that the Greeks and Romans were sex-crazed, their orgia were not what we imagine when the word "orgy" is used, although ‘those’ - you know the ones I mean - orgies did occur. The original orgies were associated with the Greek cults of Orpheus and Dionysus, a pair that literally invoke wine, women and song!

The Latin orgia usually referred to beanos and feasts where gluttonous eating and binge drinking would be the norm; the guests at the orgia would often adjourn to another room with each other or with sex slaves provided by the host.

'Officially' an Orgy is any act of immoderate indulgence and may not necessarily involve sex (see Great Wall Party from China Daily) but more usually does involve overt sex, see Dutch story here...

...where 10 couples who were being "particularly boisterous" with each other while the others watched.

…But police called to the scene admitted they were powerless to act [Ows adds - just not turned on then? Ahem] despite numerous complaints from other beach users, and could only give the naked orgy lovers a verbal warning.”

Peety, were you involved!...;-)

Anyway getting back to cephalopods, orgasms and orgies I thought it a good excuse to add one or two more erotic illustrations from Marjorie Baldwin Greene (did you notice?) who's archives and sketches are well worth a visit. The one below is called 'Tongue'...

Am I normal or am I kidding myself when I think that I am?

Orgasms…come again?

As promised here is another orgasmic post; this is the third, “The Triple Tickle”; the other two - just in case you missed them - were very well received:

Orgasms... did you see this coming?
Orgasms... the second coming.

The triple tickle is appropriate not just as this is the third ‘instalment’; it also refers to that Holy Trinity of simultaneous stimulation of the clitoris, the vagina and the anus (if you can manage it that is…it is very manageable!).

This would usually involve fingers of both hands and definitely the tongue; if any of you guys (or girls!) out there aren’t keen on using this wondrous mouth organ (well it’s an instrument!) to give your girl pleasure then…err…get the fuck off my blog you Goddam weirdos!…;-) …ahem, to continue: of course, this can lead to positional problems so finding the ideal juxtaposition of bodies is essential for comfort and efficacy. It need not be fingers, those cute little ‘finger’ shaped vibrators (you know the ones I mean!) would be even better plus gel/ baby oil/ other sex play lubricants or similar textured edible materials (honey, cream…) could also be employed to great effect...apparently.

Below is an image that doesn’t demonstrate the aforementioned positioning and may not demonstrate any of what I have referred to either, but hey, who cares if it does or not: it turns me on...and could be very loosely connected with a ‘triple tickle’! You will note the right-hand 'bud' is closed and the left-hand one is open revealing the outer, supporting tendrils which, when closed-up, protect the 3 inner, sentient, manipulating tentacles…you can just get a glimpse of supporting tendrils of the third bud which is positioned for maximum pleasure, those outer tendrils are supporting the “victim’s” weight while the inner, probing tentacles stimulate…well you can imagine what they’re doing…you can imagine that, can’t you? If not I’m wasting my time!

The above image is, as before, borrowed from the erotic sketches and stories of

Marjorie Baldwin Greene... it is called "Pollination"...oooeer.

Just as an afterthought to the post below on ornithogalum you may have presumed the word had something to do with birds i.e. ornithology etc. , and rightly so, ornitho/ ornith is from the Greek ornis, ornith - birds...hmmmm...birds... well, I expect you may be interested to know that an anagram of genus ornithogalum is:

'on until huge orgasm'!!

Orgasms... the second coming

That’s got your interest…more below after some discussion; the image is called 'Gardening' from Marjorie Baldwin Greene...which helps explain part of what I'm getting at below.

Sexologists Masters and Johnson ("Masters and Johnson on Sex and Human loving" ©1982,1985,1986) describe the female orgasm as follows: "Women often describe the sensations of an orgasm as beginning with a momentary sense of suspension, quickly followed by an intensely pleasurable feeling that usually begins at the clitoris and rapidly spreads throughout the pelvis. The physical sensations of the genitals are often described as warm, electric, or tingly, and these usually spread through the body. Finally, most women feel muscle contractions in their vagina or lower pelvis, often described as "pelvic throbbing."

The-Clitoris.com...the final few paragraphs are my own as you may guess!

While all orgasms are organically the same, varying only in strength and length, a woman may not experience them all in the same way: how a woman experiences an orgasm during masturbation is usually totally different than how she experiences it during partner sex. In fact, women often report their most "satisfying" orgasms occur during masturbation, perhaps because they are the centre of attention, and not worrying about or distracted by a partner. A woman may experience an orgasm totally differently if her vagina is empty than when a penis or hand is inserted or she may be more aware of her vaginal contractions when her vagina has something to clamp down on!

Women experience total body orgasms, clitoral orgasms, vaginal orgasms, and uterine orgasms and there are two physical changes the body must under go if a woman is to experience orgasm. The first is "vasocongestion," the pooling of blood in the breasts and genitals. This results in the breasts and genitals becoming larger, the body feeling warm or hot to the touch, the change in color of the breasts and genitals, and vaginal lubrication. The second is "Myotonia" or "neuromuscular tension," the build up of energy in the nerve endings and muscles of the entire body.

If a woman experiences one orgasm, she can usually have many more in one session, as long as adequate stimulation continues. Some women will have one orgasm right after another, for as long as the stimulation is continued. Practice seems to make this more probable. The clitoris may be extremely sensitive after the first orgasm, requiring a very light or indirect touch and a woman may need only to slip a very slightly away from the point of orgasm before she can have another.

Most multiple orgasms, despite howling protestations from all us guys, occur during masturbation most probably because there is nothing or no one to distract a woman from her pleasure, and if a vibrator or similar 'gadget' is utilized it will not get tired, unlike a woman's own hand, or that of her partner.

If a partner wants to bring their female partner to multiple orgasms, they will probably have to forego their own pleasure; at least temporarily…this last point is probably the most important: no matter what equipment we have, both as body parts (!!!) or sex toys the most important thing is to pay as much attention as possible to our partner to try and make their pleasure greater…the thing is, and you won’t like this, is that I am convinced that male humans are ill equipped to really take women to that highest high…

Guys, listen! Don't get all 'macho' with me...No, I’m not saying ‘you’ can’t do it or that your partner doesn’t orgasm; what I’m saying is…well, what I’m trying to get at here is….err, that we need a few more hands and arms with flagellum fingers and maybe even a morphing member...the following may go some way to explain: the image at the start and this one here are from a great set of highly erotic sketches and tales from Marjorie Baldwin Greene (Marjorie's Bedtime Stories), visit the site (hosted by Tripod) and see what I mean, this one is called 'Lara in Trouble II' and there are many more sketches, like this one, in colour with related captions and stories. The site comes with a caution that should be read before going further re non appropriate content for children etc. ..orgasms

So there you have it, I’m jealous of the multi-tasking tendriled/ tentacled, polymorphous orgasm-inducing powers of a series of fictional plants, aliens and cephalopod or gastropod molluscs!

Orgasms...did you see this coming?

Apparently, so my ‘friends’ tell me, most women seem to have a difficult time (understatement?) reaching orgasm during intercourse; that is if they are able to orgasm at all…here we go…the most common reason for this is that they don’t know their own bodies…oh REALLY?.err...Female masturbation is unheard of??? I believe everyone should play with themselves to learn how their body reacts to different stimuli.

Orgasms can’t be forced, and things should really be taken slowly…if possible; don’t worry if this is not the case: finishing in seconds is not unheard of or even a bad thing…depending on the circumstances. Learn techniques, experiment with them and find what works best and if you start getting frustrated when you don’t see the expected results then try again, and again…and again… (Ahem): sex is supposed to be fun and enjoyable and as soon as you make it too serious the pleasure can fade.

So I’ve been told, (oh boy...) there are more than one type of orgasm a women can have: when masturbating women usually learn to get themselves off (sorry) using their clitoris and there is nothing wrong with that, in fact well done all of you (yikes…UKBBCR5LMB smilie here; apologies to those of you who haven't a clue what I mean!...you're not missing anything!) ...but this leaves the whole world of vaginal orgasms untapped. Coitus, commonly known as vaginal sex, can be one of the clumsiest ways to stimulate a woman but while it does provide an atmosphere that can be highly arousing (phew!...us guys are here for something at least!) as well as fairly erotic at times and emotionally satisfying, the actual degree of stimulation to the woman's clitoral area is nothing compared to that achieved by her own masturbation or cunnilingus…excuse me while I take a break….bag of ice please…

Incorporation of manual stimulation to the clitoris during sex is not entirely necessary if your woman has had vaginal orgasms in the past especially if you know how to hit her G spot correctly… you need to make sure you are “hitting” the G spot with each stroke and this is impossible (or very lucky!!!) if you do not ‘know’ their body…guys, the key to female ejaculation is G spot stimulation.

Of course you need to relax and enjoy yourselves, as that is the most important part: desperate and over- energetic endeavours need to be avoided...or coordinated!…the necessary pressure exerted on the woman's clitoris can be accomplished by rotating your hips... just like sad version of a bad disco jig but here the effect of rotating or rocking back and forward could have better results than those dance floor manoeuvres.

I must say I prefer the woman sitting on top, (is that laziness?) and in this case the man should lie as flat as possible but with the pelvis tilted upward and the stomach muscles tightened… or stressing the ab-flab as the case may be; hips arched upwards to improve the quality of ‘the grind’…oh dear, did I say that?... at the same time he could/ should put his hand over the woman’s heavenly mound - you know the one I mean - with his thumb on the her clitoris so while the woman is riding him he can simultaneously stimulate her clitoris.

If, on the other hand...no, not that hand...the woman is lying on her back, the man could lie almost at a right angle (rather than sprawled all over her...guys?); this can be a great position for deep penetration and exposes the clitoris for manual stimulation…this ‘double’ stimulation should/could often lead to the big O rather more quickly than expected…did I just say “big O”?...

Alternatively, if the woman lies on her back with her legs tightly together and the man, instead of being directly in line with her is at a slight diagonal and with his own legs slightly apart...for comfort (both of her legs over one shoulder or on one side of his body), he can maximize female clitoral stimulation; this is easier if the man is standing or kneeling and the woman has her legs hanging off a desk, table, sofa or bed…and it is much more fun than it sounds...oh boy is it...apparently. No links in this post but I’m sure you/ we all know better and so do not need extra input…
