Overtly odd overreaction overview...

Three years ago today. Looking back to my first post after having returned from abroad (got back on 1st day of the first lockdown). [LINK now added

I had already told colleagues, customers and friends, loudly and repeatedly, that BJ and the UK would never lock down because it was so obviously stupid and would have a terrible effect on everything (economy, health etc). I also said that lockdowns would kill - certainly in less well-off countries - far more than this virus (which we already knew wasn't that deadly, yes, in March 2020 we knew that).

Cartoon by JOSH [donate link]

Notice the link and comment at the bottom:
BOOM "Inaccurate Virus Models Are Panicking Officials Into Ill-Advised Lockdowns"...we sort of suspected the same thing here in the UK. Could almost be Climate Change on steroids!

That was based on this article and interview: "A fiasco in the making? As the coronavirus pandemic takes hold, we are making decisions without reliable data", By John P.A. Ioannidis March 17, 2020. The Diamond Princess told us everything.

With much more data now we know that in the UK (and NY as a prime example in the USA) the actions taken caused a large percentage of the 'COVID' deaths; the majority of care-home deaths.

Of course the figures are skewed (and impossible now to ever get a true number). They lied, thousands died.

Omar's opus on orthodoxy...

...COVID orthodoxy that is. Omar S Khan, always worth a read, has an almost perfect summary of the current situation: "The Price of Perpetual Panic", "More Covidian 'Nonscience'". Of course it won't be 'the' summary because - certainly in the UK - the lunacy seems set to continue. Needless to say I think Omar has it spot-on; his final paragraph includes this sentence regarding our flirtation with suicide*
"It has been a debased, diseased performance of nonfeasance and malfeasance from leaders, the tech surveillance mob, the 'treat' late (so avoid early treatment drugs with overwhelmingly positive results) pharma predators, and the rapacious political bunglers, wanting to perpetuate their 'celebrity by mediocrity' by having addictive control over our lives and fortunes."

* Arnold Toynbee "Civilizations die from suicide, not by murder."

An update in mid August: yes, I just don't have the will anymore and apologies for not posting (also my apologies that this is only an update instead of a new blogpost. The links above seem to show that Omar has been taken off Medium (what cunts). He is writing and posting at Uncommon Wisdom, I advise anyone even slightly sceptic read his article 'Cesspool Of Insanity'. I link to it on the Change The Ride blog of Angus, purely because that's where I found it first! Angus also has some good stuff, e.g. "Headache? Take the vaccine.." Read it and you'll see his final sentence is quite correct: "Being vaccinated with this injection does not make any sense in a sane rational World."

Other outbreak oblocutors...

"You know nothing John Snow" is probably what he was told: John Snow, the British physician who 'first determined that cholera spread through contaminated water'; he wasn't sure how but he was right; he also had many naysayers and detractors.[{typo edit} Interestingly the sadly MIA blogger Raedwald mentioned him back in April:

"We must keep exposing the manifold failures of the central Whitehall machine. They are costing lives."

Anyhoo...the reason for John Snow the mention is that The Great Barrington Declaration has a rival: The John Snow Memorandum. A couple of days ago Lockdown Skeptics debunked a lot of it and today they ask "Who are the Real Heirs of John Snow in the Herd Immunity Debate?

"The conventional wisdom at the time – the view held by the scientific establishment – was the miasma theory, which held that diseases such as cholera and bubonic plague were caused by pollution or “bad air”. Instead of relying on this theory, Snow actually did some on-the-ground research, talking to local residents and analysing the pattern of infection. In this way, he was able to trace the source of the outbreak to a water pump in Broad Street and end the epidemic. Snow’s discovery, which came about because he engaged in methodical, empirical research rather than relying on some divorced-from-reality theory, is regarded as the founding event of the science of epidemiology.

For a group of establishment panjandrums to invoke John Snow’s name, given that their entire approach to the pandemic is rooted in abstract mathematical modelling, is almost laughably inappropriate."

That said, he did order the handle of the 'Broad Street Pump' to be removed so as to avoid the residents drinking the water; I suppose that could be construed as an early 'lockdown restriction' couldn't it?

More good stuff  HERE from Robert E. Wright at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) ['What?' I hear you murmour...no worries, he's a historian].

"In case my fancy words remain unclear, I am saying that the public health officials who do not understand the correct policy response to covid, represented by the Great Barrington Declaration, fail to do so because they have not studied the history of science or even medicine in sufficient detail to understand the scientific method. They are too ignorant to be humble.

Case in point, John Snow himself would have signed the Great Barrington Declaration, not the John Snow Declaration."

Finally, a few choice words from Dr. Atlas Scott [great name!], who when interviewed had some ghastly and wrrying statistics e.g. "[in the USA]...an astonishing 25.5 percent of people between 18 and 24 contemplated suicide in the month of June alone" WTF? Lockdown's a winner...NOT!

"History will record the faces of the public health expertise as some of the most sinful, egregious, epic failures in the history of public policy. They have killed people with their lack of understanding and their lack of caring about not just the impact of cases of COVID-19, a virus that the overwhelming majority of people do well in. They never cared to considered the impact of the policy itself, and the policy itself has been a complete epic failure, and honestly some people say a crime against humanity — these people should be held accountable for what they did."

Winter is Coming.

Ongoing official obnubilation...

Amazing the constant fear-mongering. The casedemic continues apace. Lockdown Skeptics have the video (also seen a Guido's) of "the stand out contribution to the debate" on The Coronavirus Act, which is due to be renewed on Wednesday; it came from Sir Desmond Swayne: "It was project fear, it was an attempt to terrify the British people, as if they haven’t been terrified enough." The real 'Project Fear' has been going on for years but the COVID one is over 6 months old already. With luck, and if the pertinent ammendment passes, "it will mean that no additional Covid
restrictions can be imposed by the Government without being approved by
Parliament."

Richard on Twitter (@RP131) has the graphic comparison [quoted and linked as he is pissed off that that others don't seem to want to link to his work after showing his graphs!] has the numbers showing what really happened against what the government scientists were showing on TV last week. "Projections in red; actuals in blue."

Richard says take with a pinch of salt..[update: here's his index Tweet with the four headings of the 'usual 4 daily threads']

Just seen this cartoon - a week late - but it is so appropriate (cartoon credit: Pat Blower LINK)

Outbreak overtures...

Did you ever notice that the word 'PANDEMIC' is 'PANIC' with 'DEM' in the middle? Anyhooo...

They are largely vilified now for wrong or delayed action and China-protecting messages but they were at least on the right track with this doc (last year's annual report) by the GPMB; the WHO acting as the host organization for the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board, although the publication does claim "This publication contains the collective views of the members of the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board and does not necessarily represent the views and policies of WHO or the World Bank".

Preparing for the worst:a rapidly spreading, lethal respiratory pathogen pandemic: [LINK]

"High-impact respiratory pathogens, such as an especially deadly strain of influenza, pose particular global risks in the modern age. The pathogens are spread via respiratory droplets; they can infect a large number of people very quickly and with today’s transportation infrastructure, move rapidly across multiple geographies. In addition to a greater risk of pandemics from natural pathogens, scientific developments allow for disease-causing microorganisms to be engineered or recreated in laboratories. Should countries, terrorist groups, or scientifically advanced individuals create or obtain and then use biological weapons that have the characteristics of a novel, high-impact respiratory pathogen, the consequences could be as severe as, or even greater, than those of a natural epidemic, as could an accidental release of epidemic-prone microorganisms."

They're definitely way off with their GDP loss predictions (page 14)...

[Edit] Again: did you ever notice that the word 'PANDEMIC' is 'PANIC' with 'DEM' in the middle? "If you want to create a totally false panic about a totally false pandemic – pick a coronavirus." [LINK] "They can not 'confirm' something for which there is no accurate test."

Overtly odd overreaction...

Cartoon by JOSH [donate link]; with references from Matt Ridley, Christopher Booker, James Delingpole and Andrew Montford you know it makes sense!

From the constantly brilliant blog Watts Up With That?, their Friday Funny, Outstanding comment IMHO (so far!): Charles Hilgey, March 27, 2020 at 1:33 pm (PDT): I hope he doesn't mind me copying and pasting:

"As the test for this virus is the only test and the flu season involves a salad of 15–20 viruses which all are transmissible the same way, many people probably have more than one virus. The only thing the Covid-19 test determines, possibly, because the test has never been tested for accuracy, is that one has this virus. But, this virus is not necessarily the virus making a person ill. It might just happen to be there. This would explain why so very many people who test positive are asymptomatic, as quite a few corona viruses are rather mild or innocuous. The presence of Covid-19 is basically meaningless as a diagnosis..

If we simply combine the illnesses and fatalities into the flu season, it would not even be a blip in the statistics. The world loses 800k+ people every year and we are panicking over about 10k? What about the 80 times more people dying of the normal “flu”? It makes no sense.

Looking at the flu in general and the Swine flu in particular, it should be pointed out that Swine flu in 2009 hit the young fairly hard, because they were not immune, while the elderly, having been through the Hong Kong flu, were already mostly immune. The reverse seems to be true here, as this virus is a SARS virus that will add onto people with existing respiratory conditions, smoker’s lungs, or compromised immune system.

Which ever virus is the culprit, the tests we have are far from definitive as we would have to have individuals who have only Covid-19 or have tests for all the suspect viruses. That is why the Italians have a “died with Covid-19” designation rather than only “died from Covid-19.” The culprit virus adds onto the already existing burden of a patient and take them down. This, alone, indicates that whichever virus is the problem, it is relatively weak and does not take the healthy. Every year the flu season takes the elderly and infirm. Nothing new about that. The alarmists just found something to focus on, and then reported falsely alarming numbers to scare everybody, counting on the ignorance of the public."

BOOM: "Inaccurate Virus Models Are Panicking Officials Into Ill-Advised Lockdowns"...we sort of suspected the same thing here in the UK. Could almost be Climate Change on steroids!
